THESE SLUMS DYING OF THIRST
In one of the many slums of Dehradun, in the state of Uttarakhand in northern India, residents live in extremely difficult conditions.Access to water is one of the major problems.According to the World Health Organization (WHO), access to water is an indicator representing the proportion of the population with reasonable access to an adequate quantity of safe drinking water.More than 2 billion people worldwide still do not have access to sanitation facilities. In India, groundwater and river pollution, difficulties in water supply, even in affluent neighborhoods, the sale of water inslums, and the transmission of diseases through polluted water cause significant damage to health.According to the UN, 40 million Indians are affected each year by diseases caused by polluted water, and 2 million people die each year from diseases linked to the lack or poor quality of water. 4,000 children die every day from diarrhea after drinking unsafe water.
